Basic Radio Usage Guide
Before You Transmit
- Listen first - Check if the channel is clear before transmitting
- Think before you speak - Plan your message to keep it brief
- Press PTT (Push-To-Talk) - Wait 1 second before speaking
- Hold radio 2-3 inches from mouth - Speak clearly and at normal volume
- Release PTT when done - Listen for response
Basic Radio Protocol
- Keep messages brief - Radio is for quick coordination, not conversation
- Use callsigns - "[Recipient], this is [Your callsign]"
- Wait for acknowledgment - Confirm message received with "Copy" or "Roger"
- Avoid sensitive info - PMR446 is NOT encrypted, anyone can listen
